Group of buildings in Łaziska — precast walls
A group of repeating single-storey precast houses on open ground in Łaziska. The photographs show the successive stages: walls being unloaded from the trailer, internal layouts standing, and finished shells with their roofs. Erection ran house by house, and deliveries were planned so that the walls went straight from the trailer onto the foundation.
With a group of repeating houses the question usually comes up of how this differs from modular construction — because from the outside the two technologies look alike: a crane, a trailer, ready-made pieces of building. The difference is fundamental and worth knowing before choosing.

Scope of work
A module is a section of a building made complete in the factory: with its walls, floor, services, sometimes with the finishes. It arrives as a box and is finished once it has been set down, but its dimensions are limited by what can be moved along a public road — hence the characteristic plans made up of rectangles of similar width. Changing the internal layout means changing the module.
A precast unit is an element, not a section of a building. A wall is a wall, a floor is a floor; the building is made from them on site, to a design that does not have to submit to a division into boxes. The plan can be anything, an internal wall can stand where it is meant to stand, and the structure stays monolithic in the sense that the joints are made on site and work as they do in a building cast in place.
The repetition seen at Łaziska produces savings precisely because it is the units — not whole buildings — that repeat from house to house: the cost of preparing a mould is spread over a dozen or more projects.
Scope of work: lightweight concrete external and internal loadbearing walls for all the houses, transport and erection on site.
