A three-storey building with eleven flats on ulica Witosa in Człopa, erected in November. The structure went up in a season when wet construction usually slows down or stops.
Concrete sets more slowly in the cold, and below a certain temperature it stops setting properly. Masonry work has its limits in the mortar, and every day of rain is a day when nothing can be done on an open structure. A November programme in traditional construction therefore carries a risk that nobody can price in advance — because it depends on the weather rather than on how the work is organised.

Scope of work
A precast unit cures in the factory, at controlled temperature and humidity, regardless of what is happening outside. It reaches the site with its strength already gained. Wet work is confined to connections and joint grouting, that is, to a fraction of the concrete that traditional construction would require to be placed in situ.
This does not mean frost stops mattering. The same rules apply to grouting as anywhere else: temperature control, appropriate admixtures, covers. But the risk then concerns a few per cent of the work rather than the whole structure.
For a public client answerable to a date fixed by contract, that difference weighs more than the price per square metre. The programme stops depending on what kind of winter it turns out to be.
Scope of work: lightweight concrete external and internal loadbearing walls, floor slabs, stair flights, landings, balcony slabs, transport and erection.
