Precast transformer substation near Wałcz
A transformer substation serving a solar farm near Wałcz, delivered as a finished precast concrete unit and set by crane straight off the trailer. Erection took a single day — the enclosure arrived complete, with the openings and service penetrations already formed.
Buildings of this size are disproportionately expensive in traditional construction. Not because they are difficult, but because every site calls for the same set-up whatever its volume: an access route, water, power, space for materials, people brought out to the plot for several weeks. A solar farm usually stands in open country, often a few kilometres from the nearest buildings, so putting that set-up in place for one small building costs more than the building itself.

Scope of work
Precast turns the arithmetic round. The enclosure is made in the plant, where the facilities already exist, and what travels to site is a finished object complete with a precast foundation. What remains on the plot is preparing the ground and one lift of the crane.
The openings and the service penetrations are formed in the mould, which on a substation matters more than usual: the cable entries have to land in specific positions, and cutting them afterwards in a reinforced concrete wall means core drilling and the risk of hitting reinforcement.
Then there is repeatability. Solar farms are built with series of substations to the same arrangement — and in precast the second unit and the tenth come off the same mould, so the differences between them are a matter of what is ordered, not of how it is made.
The electrical equipment, the connections and the works to the surrounding ground stayed with the client.
